enough to fill a fishing vest. \u00a0If you&#8217;re fishing close to the road, why not? \u00a0 However, on a backpacking trip, where weight is the enemy, it pays to cut your fly fishing gear down to the bare minimum.<\/p>\n<p>For this, I really like to use a small fly fishing pouch. \u00a0My fishing pouch was made by Backpackflyfishing.com and they called it the &#8220;trico&#8221;. \u00a0 \u00a0However, they are no longer in business. \u00a0 A virtually identical fishing pouch is currently made by Elemental Horizons under the name of <a title=\"Dragonfly\" href=\"http:\/\/www.elementalhorizons.com\/dragonflyfishingpouch.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">Dragonfly Fishing Pouch<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The total weight of the pouch and everything in it is\u00a0<span style=\"color: #333333; font-style: normal; line-height: 24px;\">7.9 ounces. \u00a0It will get me through multi-day trips of backcountry fly fishing, using both Tenkara and\/or a traditional Western rig. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_496\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-496\" style=\"width: 2006px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/larsonweb.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/fishstuffout.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-496\" title=\"Pouch Contents\" src=\"http:\/\/larsonweb.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/fishstuffout.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"2006\" height=\"1724\" srcset=\"http:\/\/larsonweb.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/fishstuffout.jpg 2006w, http:\/\/larsonweb.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/fishstuffout-300x257.jpg 300w, http:\/\/larsonweb.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/fishstuffout-1024x880.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/larsonweb.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/fishstuffout-349x300.jpg 349w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 2006px) 100vw, 2006px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-496\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Pouch and contents<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Here&#8217;s what I have in the pouch (starting top left, moving clockwise)<\/p>\n<p>Small lighter with a couple of tinder tabs (for making a fire in case of emergency.)<br \/>\nBaladeo 22g knife (for cleaning fish and other small cutting tasks.)<br \/>\n5X Froghair fluoro tippet<br \/>\nWader repair material<br \/>\nPouch with small <a title=\"Black Crater Light\" href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Black-Crater-152128-Cord-Light\/dp\/B001LK73VM\" target=\"_blank\">LED flashlight<\/a>, and Frogs Fanny floatant<br \/>\nTitanium scissor clamps<br \/>\nLoon Aquel floatant<br \/>\nShimazaki dry shake<br \/>\nFly box with dry flies and tungsten weighted nymphs<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s really all I need for fly fishing in the backcountry. \u00a0If I&#8217;m out on a really long trip, or I anticipate that I might need a broader assortment of flies, I might take a lightweight foam fly box with some extra flies in it. \u00a0Otherwise, I&#8217;m good with the basic assortment that I carry in the pouch. \u00a0There&#8217;s even a little room left over in the pouch for other small necessities such as a fishing license, or a blister dressing.<\/p>\n<p>The pouch is very convenient. \u00a0I keep the Aquel floatant in the front elasticized pocket, and the Frog&#8217;s Fanny in the dedicated floatant pocket on the side. \u00a0The scissor clamps are held at the ready in a couple of loops. \u00a0<span style=\"color: #333333; font-style: normal; line-height: 24px;\">These are the things I use the most, and they are no harder to get at than when using my fishing vest. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333; font-style: normal;
